Whether it’s a short-term cashflow issue or a long-term debt, finance problems can be overwhelming. Luckily, there are some great resources out there to help you recover.

Managing your finance with a budget plan is a good way to stay on top of your debts but sometimes you might need a bit more advice to get yourself out of a difficult situation…

Resources

Money Helper have a list of articles about dealing with debt on topics like gambling, parking fines, utility bills, and more. They also have a list of free debt advice services and a locator to help you find local, face-to-face support as well as a Money Navigator tool to guide you on your specific financial troubles.

Money Helper is provided by the government-backed Money and Pensions Service who are sponsored by the Department of Work and Pensions, so they are a credible advice resource.

Charities like Debt Advice Foundation and Citizens Advice also have great free resources. These will guide you to consolidate your debts into manageable monthly payments – allowing you to tackle your debt before it grows. Money Saving Expert also have a step-by-step guide to approaching your debt situation.

Credit Score

Defaulting on a credit agreement (not making payments when you’re meant to) will affect your credit score. Your credit profile can affect your ability to get a phone contract, purchase anything on finance, or even rent a property – so repairing your credit score is really important.

Getting back on track with your payments and improving your credit score will help you get approved for credit checks in the future. Free tools like ClearScore help you track your credit rating and give you tips on how to improve it. ClearScore doesn’t use a hard credit search, so your score won’t be affected by using it.
